Congratulations to Irene and Alan as they reach the summit of Britain’s highest peak
Irene Simmons (PA to NVT Group Directors) and her partner Alan have successfully reached the summit of Ben Nevis, six years after Irene first chaperoned a team of young people in their attempt to scale the highest mountain in Britain.
Back in May 2014, Irene and a team of NVT Group colleagues – including several Modern Apprentices – took part in the sponsored trek, in what was a sterling effort to raise funds on behalf of the NSPCC.
Unfortunately, on that particular day, inclement weather conditions stopped most of the team from reaching the summit, including Irene who stayed behind to supervise the young apprentices and help them return to sea level safely.
Irene, who is NVT Group’s resident fundraising champion and has taken part in numerous Kiltwalks – and even a fire walk – to help support ENABLE Scotland, is never one to shy away from a challenge. Not content with being on top of her career with NVT, she decided to make the trek all over again and climb to the top of that mountain! The climb would also be a test of strength for Alan, who underwent hip replacement surgery less than a year ago.
However, as you can see from the photograph above, the couple’s tenacity paid off with Irene and Alan sharing the news of their success via social media on September 24th.
The hike saw Irene and Alan start in the lowlands of Glen Nevis, then strike steeply up to the picturesque Lochan Meall, then tackle the famous zig-zag paths and then continue up the steep rocky mountain side to their goal.
We would like to congratulate both Irene and Alan for such a triumphant achievement – and we take our (woolly) hats off to you both!
