It is with much sadness that we learn of the passing of our friend and colleague, Graeme Muir, after a long battle with illness. He was 54 years old.
Graeme had worked with NVT for thirty years, joining the business on 1st April 1991 as a programmer and quickly becoming an integral part of the team. Promotions to Directorship roles then followed, being appointed as Technical Director in 1996, until 2006 when NVT acquired Wisdom IT and he began what would be a successful 15-year tenure as Group Operations Director.
During his career, there were many standout moments. He introduced HRH The Princess Royal to his team on her visit to officially open NVT Group’s Bellshill HQ on 11th April 2000. Proving his flexibility and commitment, Graeme also managed business operations whilst playing a crucial role in the delivery of our engagements at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2014 Ryder Cup and the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.
Of course, perhaps his greatest achievement during his time with NVT Group was meeting and marrying the now Managing Director of Blue Rock Cyber Defence, Lorraine Mills. Graeme and Lorraine have two children, their daughter Alex and son Jack.
On his retiral from the IT industry on 1st April 2021 – thirty years to the day since he joined our business – Graeme took on a new challenge to build a new business in the whisky industry. Graeme’s extensive knowledge of and long held passion for whisky was clear as the business grew significantly, initially specialising in the trading of premier and rare whiskies as well as launching a new whisky brand and managing client’s drink portfolios.
Beyond his professional achievements, Graeme was known for his talent in building camaraderie, his kindness and, of course, his sense of humour. His instilling of these qualities in the teams he led will be one of his many legacies.
His colleagues and customers at NVT Group, who became friends over 30 years are deeply saddened by his passing. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Graeme’s family and will forever remember him with the utmost affection.
